West University, Houston - Home Automation
As part of a home remodelling project, this client was referred to LifeStyle Technologies by another client to provide a cutting-edge, integrated home automation solution for convenience, comfort, lighting, security and home entertainment.
For a solid digital foundation to support the wide range of systems selected for the interior and exterior of this home, LifeStyle Technologies installed a high speed gigabit wireless network supported by a hardwired backbone.
To pull all the pieces and parts to work as one, we chose URC Total Control 2.0 automation and control system, a premium whole-house control system capable of integrating thousands of products from different manufacturers.
Entertainment
One of the owner’s main objectives was to have a clean installation with only TVs mounted on bedroom walls while cable boxes, gamestations, apple tvs, blu-ray players and all the cable interconnects are neatly stored in a professional A/V rack inside an equipment closet. He also wanted his family to be able to enjoy video and music all around the home. The entertainment system features nine TVs, including two eye-catching 65-inch and 75-inch Sony 4k Ultra HDTV models set into a stone wall in the family room, and multi-purpose home theater room respectively. A video matrix distributes content from the A/V sources in the equipment closet to the TVs around the home. A URC DMS multi-zone amplifier provides high resolution audio to six stereo locations around the home.
Lighting
An intelligent Lutron control system operates the lighting and fan circuits, and integrates with the home’s automation technology. Through the Total control 2.0 app, the family can choose from a number of pre-set lighting scenes throughout their home, using either a smart device, Total control remote control, or the engraved wall or tabletop keypads. Or if they prefer, they can set the mood themselves by controlling each circuit individually. Some lighting loads were scheduled to turn on and off at set times and modes including when owners are away on vacation.
Security
The Honeywell security burglary alarm, IC Realtime network video recorder and four high resolution vandal protected outdoor IP cameras are integrated by the home's automation and control technology. Through the Total control 2.0 app, the family can arm and disarm the security burglary alarm, and view camera video images on any TV, tablet, or Total control touchscreen remote controls.
Here are just a sample of many automated events we programmed for this client.
Depending on time of day, an action on the security alarm (Ex. Arm away, Arm instant, Arm stay, disarm, etc ) would turn on or off all or some lights, lower or raise the thermostats, and turn on or off all or a select number of audio and video system to a favorite channel.
Initiating a lighting event, for example, pressing or touching an "All off", "All on", "Good night" or "Good morning" button/lighting scene, would dim or turn on/off a set of lights, on/off all or a select number of TVs, raise or lower the thermostats and in some cases arm the security alarm.
